Blue Bell Creameries, based in Brenham, Texas, was a client of Bernstein & Associates for over 30 years. When Bernstein & Associates began to handle external public relations for Blue Bell, the company had yet to expand beyond the state of Texas. By 2014, it was available in 23 states and was the number-three selling brand of ice cream in the U.S. We handled national pr for Blue Bell and also introduced the ice cream into dozens of markets around the country from Phoenix to Miami, and from New Orleans to Kansas City.
Bernstein & Associates played a major role in designing and executing public relations campaigns as Blue Bell entered each new market, helped to introduce new products, and also developed a very successful national pr campaign for Blue Bell--even though Blue Bell was not available everywhere in the U.S. We arranged for Blue Bell Ice Cream to be featured on CNN, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Forbes Magazine and other national venues.
We also introduced campaigns that became standards in the Blue Bell public relations programs, such as giving school-wide ice cream parties for Blue Ribbon schools and for regional semi-finalists in state Teacher of the Year contests. We helped to create the public relations program for the company’s 100th anniversary in 2007 and were awarded, in 2008, the Grand Excalibur, the highest award given by the Houston chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, in honor of this anniversary program. Our firm has also developed public relations programs for a number of other food products and restaurants, including vomFASS, Guiltless Gourmet, Jardine’s Foods and Fischer & Wieser sauces, jams and jellies.
Bernstein & Associates first introduced Izkali Tequila to the Houston market in 2011. In addition to developing significant media coverage for the product—print, broadcast and online—we researched and helped plan many events benefitting non-profit organizations. (See sample media coverage.)
West Marine is a national chain of boating accessory stores. Bernstein & Associates handled the public relations for the opening of the company’s flagship and largest store in Texas, in Kemah. We were able to generate a spectacular amount of media coverage, including a front-page article in the business section of the Houston Chronicle, and a number of radio and TV interviews. (See clips.)
This unique nature/travel retail chain of stores based in Austin was a client of Bernstein & Associates for over 25 years. We publicized their unique variety of products, including clothing, shoes, backpacks, books, toys, binoculars and telescopes, watches, knives and many other innovative products. We also publicized many events, both in-store and out-of-store, including a visit by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia and renowned advocate of sustainability, Whole Earth’s co-sponsorship of the IMAX film on the climbing of Mt. Everest at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and Whole Earth’s sponsorship of the Banff Film Festival in Austin.
Bernstein & Associates has developed a particular specialization in the area of public relations for law firms. We have been representing law firms for over 20 years. Most of our clients are corporate law firms, including, most recently, the Houston office of Fisher & Phillips LLP, the national labor and employment law firm; the Houston office of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP; and the prominent Houston energy law and complex commercial litigation firm Pierce & O’Neill, LLP. Over the years we have represented such firms as Porter & Hedges, Thompson & Knight, Looper Reed & McGraw, the intellectual property boutique law firm Patterson & Sheridan, and Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP. We have also represented the California plaintiffs’ firm O’Reilly & Danko.
Beyond merely publicizing favorable verdicts, rulings and transactions, our pr program is designed to establish ongoing relationships between attorneys and journalists who cover their fields of expertise. We also help to develop and place articles in legal journals, business publications, trade journals, and sometimes even daily newspapers.
Most recently, we were asked by a client to help publicize the collaborative effort between Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center called the Bone Disease Program of Texas, intended to improve the research of bone diseases in order to find more effective treatment and prevention options. The program focuses primarily on osteoporosis and bone metastases in cancer patients. We developed substantial local print and broadcast coverage, including a radio feature on the local NPR station, two lengthy TV medical reports and a near full-page article in the Houston Chronicle.
Bernstein & Associates has provided full-scale pr programs for many real estate, architecture and construction companies, including Falcon Group, Satterfield & Pontikes, Gamma Construction and 3D/International. Among other major projects, we publicized 3DI's work in renovating the Texas State Capitol and the work of Morganti Construction in building the Austin-Bergstrom Airport.
Bernstein & Associates promoted Tramontina, a 100-year old Brazilian cookware manufacturer with U.S. headquarters in Houston, for bringing manufacturing jobs into the U.S. from China and Europe. We generated substantial amounts of publicity for this client, including a major feature in the Houston Chronicle and a business feature on the local National Public Radio station.
